the Current Problem

Our Veterans and Cybersecurity

Problem

    1. Veterans are struggling to transition back to civilian life. We long for community.
    • Veteran unemployment up to nearly 12 percent amid coronavirus crisis
    • The total Veteran population is predicted to decline from 20.8 million in 2015 to 12.0 million in 2045.
    1. Cybersecurity is not just an IT problem. It is a business problem.
    • Covid-19 increasing risk around cyber security for individuals and companies
    • With cybercrime on the rise and vulnerabilities constantly being exposed, it is imperative that organizations take a proactive stance to protecting assets and employing skilled cybersecurity professionals.
    • Limited Cyber security talent in the industry
    • Vet transitioning into civilian IT careers

    1. Shortage of cybersecurity personnel worldwide
    • Since 2010-2014, job postings for cyber security roles have increased by 91%, as compared to 28% for ALL Informational Tech positions.

The opportunity

The High Demand For Cybersecurity Professionals

Cybersecurity is one of the hottest industries to get into. With an average salary for a Cyber Security Analyst reaching above $92k per year, and with the cybersecurity labor crunch to hit 3.5 million unfilled jobs by 2021, up from 1 million openings in 2016. The cybercrime epidemic is expected to triple the number of open positions over the next three years, and is even more exaggerated now due to the 2020 global pandemic.

High Demand for Professionals

There is a need for both technical experts and creative problem solvers to help defend networks and keep pace with cyber adversaries.

More people are working remotely

The move to a remote workforce has changed the security attack surface for every organization increasing the vulnerabilities to sensitive company information.

Security Clearance

Many of the certifications and positions require government clearances that most civilians don’t have access to, which gives our veterans an upper hand and a step ahead.

Salary

As of Jul 14, 2020, the average annual pay for the Cyber Security jobs category in the United States is $112,974 a year.

TESTIMONIALS

Hello, my name is Martin Cortez. I recently separated from the United States Army after 7 years of service. I worked mainly in the medical field as a nurse and held various administrative roles. I enjoy spending time with my family and fitness.

Why did I choose the Cyber Ohana Project?

I chose the Cyber Ohana Project because just like many veterans who separate from the military, they look for a different career. I wanted to venture out in the world of technology due to my fascination in technology, however; I never pursued it went I was still in the service due to my lack of knowledge in technology.

After searching for a variety of Information Technology-type programs and applying to them with no success, I finally found the Cyber Ohana Project. Their mission to help struggling veterans, acclimate back into the civilian world, and assist them into their journeys into the IT field motivated me to pursue the program no matter what. At first, I was hesitant in applying because I lacked experience in technology, but after the first contact I had, they ensured that many walked the same path I did and became successful. From the first interview to the last, I felt more and more confident in myself that I can pick myself back up after leaving the military.

Being part of a program and like-minded people, makes the class enjoyable and a good place to learn. I thank the Cyber Ohana Project for giving me the opportunity to be part of the Ohana.
